Army Private First Class Frank (Francis) Wagner, Frank was killed in action during WWII at the age of 19. Francis was born in St Nazianz in 1925, he attended St Gregory's Parochial School and graduated from Kiel High School in 1943. He entered the Army in August 1943 and served in combat from June 1944 until he was fatally wounded in action on Angaur in the Palau islands on September 28, 1944. His death was the first war casualty in the Village of St. Nazianz, and the 71st in Manitowoc County. He was initially buried overseas, but was brought home to St Nazianz and buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery on February 12, 1949. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Combat Infantryman's Badge.
Army Private First Class Reinhold Frank Sukowaty died on September 10th, 1944. Eberle was born in the Town of Eaton in 1913, and attended St Gregory's Parochial School before entering the Army on February 17, 1942. He attended training at Camp Robinson, Arkansas, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and San Luis Obispo, California., before being sent overseas in September, 1943. He was first stationed at Hawaii with a Medical Battalion, and in January 1944, he was transferred to New Guinea. He died there in a hospital after a brief illness. He was the first war casualty of St. Gregory’s Parish of World War II. Reinhold's body was never returned to the US, and he remains in New Guinea.

Women's Auxiliary Corps (WAC) Private Leona M. Sukowaty, died on June 17, 1945 as the result of an illness she contacted while stationed at the WAC training center at Avon Park, Florida, Although she returned to the family farm home near St. Nazianz to recuperate, she died at a local hospital. Private Sukowaty was born at the farm home in Eaton in 1924 and attended the St. Gregory's Parochial School. Before enlisting in the Woman's Auxiliary Corps, she was employed in the plant of the Douglas Aircraft corporation in Chicago. She attended Basic Training in Des Moines, Iowa, after enlisting in January 1945, and later was transferred to Florida. She is buried at St. Gregory Catholic Cemetery in St. Nazianz.
